Hello world! I’m Emily, I am a military spouse, mother to 6 great kids, DIYer and an artist. Since I was a young child, I have loved creating and I come by it honestly. My great-grandmother was an artist and having her paintings hung around my house always felt special. My great-grandmother passed on her passion to my mom who is very artistic as well and then in turn passed it down to me. As a child I primarily loved to sketch but was always trying out new creative outlets. I remember pulling out my mom’s old sketch book from her college days and trying to replicate her work. So naturally, when I got to college, I took art classes, as well as art theory, deepening my love for creating.
My husband and I married in college and started our family young, so finding quiet time to work on art was challenging. While my children were young, I directed my creative passion towards home design and making each of our homes feel like ours and being military, we’ve had a few homes. After our Germany assignment we moved to Florida and bought our first home, a fixer upper. While we worked on our home as a family, I always had an eye out for ways to make our home feel warm, personal, and inviting. My sister-in-law’s home is filled with beautiful art, that adds character and depth to her walls. I always felt a stir inside my soul when looking at art and felt like I could visualize each stroke of the art.
With the encouragement from my family, I decided to pick up a brush and give it a try. I quickly fell in love with painting. I started out taking classes for watercolors and I loved the way paint flowed on the pages tells a story. After a few years I wanted to challenge myself as an artist and took on learning to use oils. I love the layers and depth that oil brings to a piece. In each piece I can feel my emotions being poured into my work and I feel a connection with it. I love the way art can speak to each person individually and stir something inside them. I hope that my work speaks to you, and you can feel the love that I have poured into my work.
Our home has been busy with 6 children. Our youngest two joined our family through foster care and now permanently in our hearts through adoption. Now that all 6 of them are in school I have been investing a lot more of my time into painting. I look towards the wondrous art that God created for my inspiration. Being in nature refreshes the soul and I am trying to capture a glimpse of that beaty and bring it into the home. For a few years now, I have been selling my art to friends and family. They have each encouraged me to introduce my art to the world and sell publicly…..the idea terrifies me. It feels vulnerable to share my passion and something I pour my heart into with the world. Art is personal and moves the soul. I pray that my art moves and stirs your soul, taking you to places in nature that bring peace to your mind and heart.
